Being nominated and sent to the AHL All-Star Game is a reflection of the hard work that is being noticed by a player’s team and the league as a whole. For the Syracuse Crunch, Gage Goncalves heads off to San Jose to represent the team. This is his first AHL All Star Appearance in his third full season with the Crunch. Goncalves is currently leading Syracuse in points with 30. He has notched seven goals with 23 assists. He has one power play goal and two shootout attempts so far this season.
Goncalves was drafted in Round 2 of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by Tampa Bay Lightning. Prior to being drafted, Goncalves played for the Everett Silvertips in the WHL. In his 151 game span of playing in Everett, he tallied 46 goals with 74 assists. In the 2018-2019 season, he helped the team go to playoffs and dressed in 10 playoff games and notched 2 goals and 4 assists in post-season play. With a strong career in the WHL, he is developing nicely in the AHL under the direction of Head Coach Joel Bouchard.
Goncalves has problem-solving skills during plays that has been vital to the Crunch’s success this season. He is able to apply pressure to the opponent and deter shots away. He is a very driven and intelligent player that Tampa Bay fans should be excited about. Golcalves is currently on pace to either match or surpass his season last year where he notched 54 points over the course of 71 games played.
As of the current time of this article, Gage Goncalves has been recalled to Tampa Bay. He is looking to make his NHL Debut.
