Merkulov Named To AHL All Star Classic

Georgii Merkulov will represent the Providence Bruins in the AHL All-Star Classic. He will participate in the All-Star Skills Competition February 4 and the All-Star Challenge on February 5 in San Jose California.

Can’t Slow Merkulov Down

Forward Merkulov leads the club with 33 points (14G,19A). He has shown growth and gains since the end of last season. With the consistent ice time he has been able to compete with last season’s totals. In 67 games, Merkulov had 55 points (24G, 31A). The 23-year-old has benefitted from consistent ice time and game time action.

Merkulov was recalled on an emergency basis in December. He spent four games with the Boston Bruins where he was able to make his debut. While time in the NHL is crucial in a player’s development, Merkulov will certainly see more of a benefit in the AHL for the time being. Instead of only seeing fourth-line minutes on a potential semi-regular basis, he will see top-six minutes with the Providence Bruins.

He has not skipped a beat since being re-assigned to the AHL. Merkulov has three points in the two games since returning to the Providence Bruins. He looks to extend his point streak to three games on Friday against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.

What a way to share the news! The Providence Bruins organization let everyone know Merkulov would be their representative in California next month during the middle of practice. A member of the organization skated around the players in a Merkulov jersey with a number 10 flag. His teammates were quick to celebrate with a giant group hug and head tussles.

Everyone Loves an Underdog

Merkulov is an undrafted free agent after spending a season with Ohio State. The Bruins signed him in April of 2022.

This is Merkulov’s first nomination in his second full professional season.
