Springfield, MA – The visiting Grand Rapids Griffins hung on to secure a 2-1 victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday evening at the Mass Mutual Center. Springfield opened the scoring in the first period as Matthew Peca flipped a rebound high short side past Griffins starting goalie Ville Husso who would leave the game early in the second period replaced by Sebastian Cossa. The Griffins got on the board late in the second period with a power play goal from Nate Danielson and the period would end deadlocked 1-1. Gabriel Seger gave the Griffins the lead late in the third period. The Griffins took a late penalty with just a few ticks over two minutes to play in the third. The Thunderbirds pulled goalie Colten Ellis for the 6-4 advantage but Cossa came up with some big stops to seal the win.
