Springfield, MA – Saturday night was “Pink in the Rink” night, and the Springfield Thunderbirds defeated the Toronto Marlies 5-1, to the delight of the packed house. The Marlies, coming off a 7-6 shootout win in Utica on Friday evening, would run into a Thunderbirds team looking to avenge their loss to instate and division rival Bridgeport on Friday. Thunderbirds goaltender Colten Ellis was superb in net as the Marlies outshot his squad by a two-to-one margin. Springfield’s leading scorer, Adam Gaudette, would have a hat trick in the win, scoring the first two Thunderbirds goals and capping the evening off with an empty netter. The Thunderbirds would get goals from defenseman Hunter Skinner in the second and defenseman Joseph Duszak in the third. The Marlies would get their lone score from forward Alex Steeves in the first.
