Providence, R.I. – The Rochester Americans handed the Providence Bruins a 3-2 overtime defeat on Saturday evening as they keep pace with Cleveland for the second-place spot in the North Division. The Bruins Ian Mitchell opened the scoring late in the first period on the power play. Mitchell was able to blast a one-timer past Rochester goalie Devon Levi with 12 seconds left. The teams would trade goals in the second. Rochester’s Linus Weissbach put a rebound past Bruins goalie Michael DiPietro midway through the period. Jayson Megna regained the Bruins’ lead as he redirected a feed across the crease from Georgii Merkulov with 6:32 remaining. As the teams traded chances in the third Rochesters, Anton Wahlberg netted the tying score at 9:56. Rochester opened the overtime on the power play, and 46 seconds in, Michael Mersch, camped out at the top of the crease, would wrap the puck around DiPietro for the game-winner.
