PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Toronto Marlies made their only appearance in Providence on Friday night and had a 8-2 beat down to the recently surging Bruins. Providence’s Jayson Megna would open the scoring at the 13:55 mark of the first period but Toronto would tally the next two. Dylan Gambrell would tie the score and a shorthanded goal from Logan Shaw at the 19:30 mark to close the first period.
The second period would see the the Marlies score four unanswered goals with Logan Shaw scoring his second of the game on the power play at the 4:07 mark. That would spell the end of the evening for Bruins starting goalie Michael DiPietro. The Marlies Mikko Kokkonen, Keiffer Bellows and Dylan Gambrell, 2nd of the evening, would close out the scoring for the period. The third period would open with Marlies Matteo Pietronio scoring at the 1:16 mark and fellow defenseman Topi Niemela adding his name to the score sheet at 10:38. The Bruins would get a late third period power play goal from team leading scorer Georgii Merkulov netting his tenth of the season.
