MacKenzie MacEachern ruled out for the rest of the year

On Tuesday, the Springfield Thunderbirds, in conjunction with their parent club, the St. Louis Blues, announced that forward MacKenzie MacEachern is undergoing shoulder surgery, and is anticipated to miss the remainder of the regular season.

MacEachern left the Thunderbirds’ game against the Charlotte Checkers on Saturday night and went down the tunnel to the locker room clutching his shoulder.

According to Brendan Rooney of MassLive.com, he was checked on the bench before being led down the tunnel to get looked at.

MacEachern, dubbed “Mac” by his teammates, coaching staff, and even broadcaster Ryan Smith, was on his way to a possible career-high season.

This season, he played in 34 games – not the career-high I’m referring to – and scored six goals and racked up 13 assists (19 points) on 57 shots. All were tracking towards his career highs of 12, 19, and 78 in goals, assists, and shots, respectively.

While it is unclear what sort of shoulder injury caused the season-ending injury, given the team’s vague reporting, The Calder Times did reach out to Springfield for comment at the time of publishing. At the time of publishing, there was no further statement or response from the team.
