Who Are the Bakersfield Condors?

The Bakersfield Condors began operations in Halifax, NS, as the Nova Scotia Oilers in 1984, before moving to Sydney, NS and becoming the Cape Breton Oilers. They have also been known as the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Toronto Roadrunners, the Edmonton Road Runners and the Oklahoma City Barons.

The Condors are the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. As the Barons, they became part of an AHL drive to relocate teams to form a brand-new Pacific Division in 2015. This Division consisted of the Ontario Reign, San Diego Gulls, Texas Stars, San Jose Barracuda, Bakersfield Condors, Stockton Heat and San Antonio Rampage. The Bakersfield Condors replaced the ECHL team of the same name that operated between 2003 and 2014. The Condors are one of multiple AHL teams owned by their NHL parent.

Since the Condors move to Bakersfield, they have made the playoffs three times, plus qualifying for (and winning) the Pacific Division Tournament that replaced the Calder Cup Playoffs in 2021 due to COVID-19. They have not won the Calder Cup as the Bakersfield Condors, but as the Hamilton Bulldogs they won the trophy in 2007, beating the Hershey Bears 4-1 in the finals.

In the 2022-23 season, the Condors finished the regular season with a record of 37-31-2-2, 5th in the division. They made the playoffs but were swept in the first round by the Abbotsford Canucks.

Their current head coach is Colin Chaulk, their current GM is Keith Gretzky, and they play out of the Mechanics Bank Arena.

Notable Condors players include Caleb Jones, Brad Malone and Ryan Stanton.
