Who Are the Rockford IceHogs?

The Rockford IceHogs are the top American Hockey League affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks when the franchise was relocated from Cincinnati prior to the 2007-08 season. The IceHogs play out of the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Illinois, and were formally purchased by the Blackhawks in April of 2021 and plans were made to remodel their arena. The deal ensures that the IceHogs stay in Rockford through 2036.

The IceHogs have not made it to the Calder Cup Finals during their time at the AHL level, only making it as far as the Western Conference Finals in 2018 where they were defeated by the Texas Stars in six games. The IceHogs are a continuation of the previous United Hockey League team to bear the same name, playing from 1999-2007 and ceasing operations at the UHL level once the AHL team was established.

In the 2022-23 season, the IceHogs featured a record of 35-28-5-4 ranking them fifth in the Central Division. They were eliminated in three games by the Texas Stars in the Central Division Semifinals.

Their current head coach is Anders Sorensen, their current GM is Mark Bernard, and their captain is Garrett Mitchell.

Notable former IceHogs include Troy Brouwer, Kris Versteeg, and Niklas Hjalmarsson.
