Who Are the Bridgeport Islanders?

The Bridgeport Islanders have been the AHL affiliate for the New York Islanders since 2001, when they joined the AHL as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. They were purchased by the New York Islanders in 2004 and are currently owned by Jon Ledecky, a co-owner of the Islanders.

The Islanders have remained almost entirely unchanged in their 22 year history in the AHL.

They currently play in the Atlantic Division, and have since 2015, when they moved from the Northeast Division. Previous to that, they played two seasons in the Atlantic Division between 2009 and 2011, and between 2001 and 2009 they played in the East Division.

In their inaugural season, they won the McGregor Kilpatrick Trophy for the best regular season record in the AHL, making it all the way to the Calder Cup finals before losing to the Chicago Wolves in 5 games. This remains their most successful season in franchise history.

Their regular season record in 2022-23 was 34-30-7-1. They finished 7th in the division, and did not make the playoffs.

Their current head coach is Rick Kowalsky, their current GM is Chris Lamoriello, and they play out of the Total Mortgage Arena.

Notable former Islanders include Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Ryan Strome and Calvin DeHaan
