Who Are the Colorado Eagles?

The Colorado Eagles began as a CHL (Central Hockey League) team in 2003. In 2011, with the collapse of the CHL, they moved to the ECHL, where they won two Kelly Cups back to back, before joining the AHL in 2018.

With the addition of the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL, a decision was made to increase the number of AHL teams to 31, but instead of the Golden Knights introducing a new team, they chose to affiliate with the Chicago Wolves. This was part of a reshuffle in affiliations, and the Colorado Avalanche moved their AHL team from San Antonio, Texas, to Loveland, Colorado.

The Eagles had previously been the ECHL affiliate for the Avalanche and the San Antonio Rampage. The Eagles were added to the Pacific Division, easily replacing the Rampage.

The Eagles have never won the Calder Cup, but they have made the playoffs in every year since joining the AHL except for the 2019-2020 season, which was cancelled 56 games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2022-23, the Eagles finished with a record of 40-22-7-3, third in the Pacific Division. They lost to Coachella Valley in the second round of the playoffs.

Their current head coach is Aaron Schneekloth, their current GM is Kevin McDonald, and they play out of the Budweiser Events Centre.

Notable former Eagles include Ryan Graves, Greg Pateryn and Alex Newhook.
