Who Are the Milwaukee Admirals?

The Milwaukee Admirals have been supplying hockey dating as far back as 1970, where they began life as the Milwaukee Wings before taking on their current name after their first season. Originally playing as an independent team, they’d climb the ranks of the United States Hockey League before jumping to the International Hockey League in 1977. When the IHL folded in 2001, the Admirals joined the American Hockey League where they’ve been ever since.

The Admirals have been the top development team of the Nashville Predators ever since they were formed in 1998. It wouldn’t take long for the team to capture the Calder Cup, sweeping the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2004 and making it as far as the final round in 2006 where they lost to the Hershey Bears.

As an interesting piece of trivia, the Milwaukee Admirals are owned by a group that includes the owner of the Milwaukee Brewers, Mark Attanasio, and as a result, the team’s uniforms feature that connection with a Brewers patch on the front. The team was allowed to keep their name when they joined the AHL despite another team, the Norfolk Admirals, sharing their namesake.

In the 2022-23 season, the Milwaukee Admrials finished with a record of 41-24-5-2, second in the Central Division. They were defeated in six games by the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the Western Conference Finals.

Their current head coach is Karl Taylor, their general manager is Scott Nichol, and their home arena is the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
