Who Are the Texas Stars?

Although the Texas Stars are not the most tenured team in the American Hockey League, it’s easy to forget considering how much success the team has had in a short span. The Stars went to the Calder Cup Finals in their inaugural season as well as 2018 and won their first title in 2014.

Their success was born from adversity, as their National Hockey League affiliate in Dallas did not have an affiliate for the 2008-09 season, taking over the Iowa Chops and renaming them to the Texas Stars for the 2009-10 campaign. The new team got off to a good start, winning two Game Sevens to go to the Calder Cup Finals in 2010 but lost to the Hershey Bears. Only a few years later, they’d win their division and claim their first title in 2014.

The Stars would get close again in 2018, coming to within one win of a second championship but ultimately lost to the Toronto Marlies in a decisive Game Seven.

This past season, the Stars finished with a record of 40-20-9-3 as the top team in the Central Division. They’d fall in the Central Division Finals by a 3-2 count to the Milwaukee Admirals.

Their head coach is Neil Graham, their general manager is Scott White, and they play out of the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Texas Stars alumni include Jamie Benn, Jamie Oleksiak, and Jake Oettinger.
