Providence, R.I. – The Providence Bruins defeated the North Division leading Cleveland Monsters 4-3 in overtime in the first of their two game weekend series. It was a fast action packed game with plenty of hard hitting physical play. Special Teams would serve the Bruins well as they scored three shorthanded goals in regulation and a power play clincher in the overtime.

The Bruins were leading 3-2 late in the third period with over 2 minutes to play when Cleveland pulled goalie Pavel Cajan for the extra skater. Winger Trey Fix-Wolansky tied the score with a quick wrist shot from the top of the left face off circle that beat Bruins net minder Michael DiPietro high on the glove side. Clevelands first two goals were scored by center Brendan Gaunce and defenseman David Jiricek both in the first period. Bruins scores were by defenseman Dan Renouf in the first period and forwards Jayson Megna and  Marc McLaughlin in the second. Georgii Merkulov put home a one timer into the short side top shelf from the right face off circle 45 seconds into the overtime for the win.
