Springfield, MA – The Springfield Thunderbirds who have slumped recently juiced up their game for a 4-2 victory over the Providence Bruins on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins jumped right out of the gate with a goal by Patrick Brown 46 seconds into the game. The Bruins struck again midway through the period when recently signed University of Minnesota forward Jaxon Nelson netted his first AHL goal for the 2-0 lead. After a first period dominated by the visiting Bruins the Thunderbirds came out in the second with more energy and tallied a score from Drew Callin that energized the crowd. Thunderbirds leading scorer and fan favorite Adam Gaudette would net his 43rd of the season on a 4 on 3 power play and the period ended with the teams tied 2-2. The third period was chippy and had both teams with good scoring chances and big stops on both ends of the ice. Just past the midway point of the period Gaudette electrified the crowd with his 44th for the 3-2 lead. The Bruins pulled Brandon Bussi for a sixth skater but Thunderbirds Keenan Washkurak put the game away with the empty netter with 50 seconds left securing the win for Springfield net minder Colten Ellis.
