The San Jose Barracuda today announce that Radim Simek has been named the fifth Captain in Barracuda history.
Simek has played all his North American hockey with the San Jose Sharks organisation, joining the team in the 2017-18 season. Since then he’s spent significant time between the NHL and the AHL, and has recorded 44 points with the Barracuda over 100 games, and 29 points over 209 NHL games with the Sharks. In 31 games for the Barracuda this season, he has 15 points including 4 goals and 11 assists.
“Radim has provided the room with a lot of leadership since he joined the Barracuda at the start of the season,” said Joe Will, Barracuda GM. “His professional approach on a daily basis is contagious. As this season has progressed, it became clear that he was the right choice to be our captain and we’re excited for him to take on this responsibility.”
“Radim has done everything that we’ve asked from him this season,” said John McCarthy, Barracuda Head Coach. “He’s a great pro and he has had a positive influence on all the players and staff. His work ethic and attitude made giving him the “C” an easy decision.”
Initially the leadership group for the Barracuda was Nathan Todd, Ryan Carpenter, Scott Sabourin, Justin Bailey and Cole Cassels, but as three of these players have spent time at the NHL level this season, Simek seems to have stepped up to fill that void and done an admirable job at it.
The Barracuda next play tonight at Abbotsford against the Canucks. The puck drops at 7pm PT, and the game can be viewed on AHL TV.
