The San Jose Barracuda signed forward Cole Cassels to a one year contract earlier today.
Most recently of the Belleville Senators, Cassels is a seasoned AHLer, having played there since 2015-16. He made his debut for the Utica Comets, playing three seasons for them before spending a season in Germany. In the 2019-20 season, he returned to the AHL, playing for both the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Belleville Senators, as well as a brief stop with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. In 2021 he joined the Cleveland Monsters for a season, before returning to Belleville last season, where he played 64 games and recorded 51 points. This was almost double his previous season high of 26 points in the 2017-18 season.
Cassels was a former third round pick of the Vancouver Canucks, and though he has yet to make his NHL debut, he provides scoring depth and veteran leadership for a very young Barracuda team that lost many of its veteran players this offseason.
