Wranglers Round-Up: Calgary Sit Atop the AHL with New Jerseys

It has been quite a month and a half for the Calgary Wranglers. They’ve seen players like Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil get the call-up and players like Matthew Coronato join the team. Their 11-1-1 has earned them the top spot in the league.

The Wranglers are hot off a 5-4 shootout win over the Ontario Reign on Friday night. Contributions from up and down the lineup allowed the Wranglers to stay in it when they fell behind. The two teams were playing tit-for-tat hockey through sixty minutes. Cole Schwindt, Ben Jones, Clark Bishop and Rory Kerins all found themselves on the scoresheet. Kerins scored the shootout winner to wrap it up in Ontario.

Introducing, The Outlaw

Prior to their win, the Wranglers revealed their alternate jerseys. The jerseys pay homage to their big brother with the Calgary Flames, Blasty.

The Wranglers will wear these stunning jerseys on twelve occasions. The first one is on November 25 against the Abbotsford Canucks.

Time with the Wranglers is Key for Matthew Coronato’s Development

Earlier this month, Matthew Coronato was re-assigned to the Wranglers. This came after the Flames’ slow start to the season. Coronato had one goal and one assist in ten games. In order for a player to develop, they need to have consistent ice time. The 21-year-old was averaging almost fourteen minutes a night but found himself in an awkward part of the equation. The powerplay was unable to find success and 5v5 hockey was almost as disastrous. None of that falls solely on one player.

Matthew Coronato has been thriving with the Wranglers. He has eight points ( 4g,4a) in seven games played. There is an obvious confidence in his game that was missing at the start of the season. He has found his shot and has been able to lay a foundation for his professional game.

What’s Ahead?

Ben Jones looks to extend his six-game point streak in Sunday’s game against the Reign. He has accrued nine points ( 3g, 6a ) over the six-game stretch. Will he be able to make it to ten?
