Wranglers Round-Up: The Latest News From Calgary

The Calgary Wranglers are off to a hot 3-0-1 start. It appears players have adjusted to the change right out of the gate. It’s still early and injuries are starting to rear their ugly head. Join us for the first installment of, Wranglers Round-Up

Wranglers Round-Up

The team announced on Wednesday that Jeremie Poirier will be out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a laceration he received during a game against Abbotsford.

Remaining vague with his timeline may benefit the club. It does not put any expectation on Poirier to return prior to being ready. It also allows some flexibility to his return. Rushing a player back from any injury is ill-advised and it looks like the organization is taking the same approach with Jakob Pelletier as well.

Prior to injury, Poirier was tied second in scoring with 6 points ( 1G, 5A) alongside teammate Adam Klapka.

Ilya Solovyov Recalled

The Calgary Flames placed Kevin Rooney on LTIR and have officially recalled defenseman, Ilya Solovyov. It appears the injury bug has bitten the Flames and Wranglers quite early on.

Solovyov had a great training camp with the big club. He has been an early favorite to see NHL ice time this season. There is no timetable for his NHL appearance.

Connor Zary’s Surge

Connor Zary might finally be turning a corner with his offense. He sits second in AHL scoring with 8 points in 4 games. The forward whose professional career has been delayed due to injury and an ongoing pandemic is seeing his hard work pay off.

Zary got a long hard look at Calgary Flames training camp. With how things are trending with the big club, Zary may be getting a call sooner than expected.

The forward has proven with his offense, playmaking and speed that he has taken steps to move closer to an NHL roster spot.

His chance to crack the roster just got a little better as the Flames announced Adam Ruzicka is day to day with an upper-body injury.

Dustin Wolf Owns The Net

Reigning AHL Goaltender of the Year, Dustin Wolf has picked up right where he left off. Wolf currently sits at a .910 SV% through three games. The outlier in three games is his performance against the Abbotsford Canucks last weekend. He allowed six goals in just one outing.
